Minervini Trend Template Scanner
This Minervini trend template scanner finds US-listed stocks that meet a defined set of relative performance, moving average and 52-week range rules. The free results below use final daily data and are delayed five trading sessions.
Key Takeaways
- RP must be above 70 and price must sit above the 50-day, 150-day and 200-day SMAs.
- The moving averages must be aligned, the 200-day SMA must be rising, and price must meet both 52-week range tests.
- This is a daily trend screen. A match identifies a stock for review and does not establish an entry or an exit.

Free view: up to 5 stocks each week, with final signals 5 trading days late, a close above $5 and more than $10 million traded on the signal day. Not every signal works. The journal shows all of them, winners and losers.
Source: Twelve Data. Charts: TradingView Lightweight Charts. Educational information, not investment advice.
Final matches also require price above $5 and more than $10 million in daily dollar volume, calculated as closing price multiplied by final share volume. Developing and after-close preliminary scans in the app keep the price floor and skip volume filters. Choose a week, then select a stock to update the chart beside the results. Charts include all available stored price history; free signal markers and highlighted candles stop at the delayed cutoff.
The board shows four calendar weeks, with up to five unique stocks per direction in each week. A symbol uses its latest qualifying session that week. Dated-match counts can be higher than the sample shown. An empty direction means no qualifying rows in that delayed week; an unavailable message means the history could not be verified.
The exact trend template rules
A stock must pass every condition on the signal date. The scanner uses simple moving averages of daily closing prices. Its 52-week range is the highest high and lowest low across the latest 252 trading sessions, including the signal session.
- RP percentile is greater than 70.
- Closing price is above the 50-day, 150-day and 200-day SMAs.
- The 50-day SMA is above both the 150-day and 200-day SMAs.
- The 150-day SMA is above the 200-day SMA.
- Closing price is at least 30% above the 252-session low.
- Closing price is at least 75% of the 252-session high, which means within 25% of that high.
- The 200-day SMA is greater than its value 30 trading sessions earlier.
The inequalities matter: RP of exactly 70 fails, and price equal to a required moving average fails. The range boundaries are inclusive. A stock exactly 30% above its low or exactly 25% below its high can pass those respective tests.
What RP means in this scanner
RP is our transparent relative performance percentile. We calculate each eligible stock’s closing-price return over 252 trading sessions, then rank those returns against the other eligible US-listed stocks in the scan. Tied returns receive the same midrank percentile. RP above 70 places a stock toward the stronger end of that measured universe.
This calculation uses price returns rather than a proprietary rating or a benchmark-relative formula. It is not the IBD Relative Strength Rating. RP can differ between tools because the return period, universe, corporate-action treatment and tie handling can differ. Historical RP uses prices available through that historical signal date, so today’s ranking is not applied to older dates.
How we measure a rising 200-day SMA
The rising-average test compares the current 200-day SMA with the 200-day SMA from 30 trading sessions earlier. Any positive change passes. The displayed slope percentage is the change divided by the older SMA, multiplied by 100. This is a fixed comparison rather than a visual judgment about the chart.
For example, an older SMA of $40 and a current SMA of $41 produce a positive 2.5% slope. An unchanged $40 average fails. This comparison requires enough complete history to calculate both averages. Missing required sessions cause exclusion rather than stretching the window across a data gap.
How to review a matching stock
Open a stock’s chart to see its price and the three moving averages. Check whether the price has already extended far above the averages, whether resistance is close, and whether a setup offers a clear way to define risk. Several consecutive matching days can indicate a continuing trend; each match is a daily state, rather than a new crossover event.
The trend template does not check earnings growth, institutional ownership, sector leadership, a volatility contraction pattern or the quality of a base. Those require separate research. Our guide to Mark Minervini’s trading strategy explains the broader context beyond these mechanical trend conditions.
What the delay and history mean
The free cutoff is five actual exchange trading sessions behind the latest complete daily-data session. Weekends and exchange holidays do not count. Missing scan dates do not shorten the delay. The page updates automatically from stored final scan results, and it never includes forming-candle matches.
Charts show the listed signal date and scanner lines. Price bars can extend beyond the delayed signal to a later permitted final close, but scan markers stop at the delayed cutoff. Initial history for these four scanners covers approximately 60 finalized sessions using the currently eligible stock universe. It is not a survivorship-free database of all companies that existed historically.
Current scanners and trade tracking
The Financial Tech Wiz Trading Journal provides current scanner lists, dated charts, trade tracking and performance analytics. Its developing daily scans are labeled preliminary, require a daily candle close for confirmation, and skip all volume qualification filters. Coverage rotates across the stock universe, so the list is not a simultaneous real-time view of every stock.

FAQ
What are the Minervini trend template criteria?
This screen requires RP above 70, price above the 50-day, 150-day and 200-day SMAs, aligned averages, a rising 200-day SMA, price at least 30% above its 52-week low and within 25% of its 52-week high. All conditions must pass.
How is relative strength measured in this Minervini scanner?
Our RP is the defined 252-session closing-price return percentile across the eligible stock universe. It is not the IBD Relative Strength Rating or a benchmark-relative calculation.
How do I use a Minervini screener?
Use the matches to identify stocks for chart and company research. Review the trend, base, extension and risk independently. A mechanical trend template match does not establish a complete trade plan.
