Key Takeaways
- Bullish divergence: price makes a lower low while RSI makes a higher low at the matching pivots.
- Bearish divergence: price makes a higher high while RSI makes a lower high.
- A pivot is confirmed five sessions after it forms, so listed divergences do not repaint.
Free cards also require a close above $5, more than $10 million traded on the signal day, a current market cap of at least $2 billion, and they skip likely buyouts: stocks whose price has stayed within 3% for 10 sessions, which usually means a pending deal.
The exact RSI divergence rules
- RSI 14 uses Wilder smoothing on daily closes.
- An RSI pivot low is lower than each of the 10 sessions before it and no higher than each of the 5 sessions after it; a pivot high is the mirror.
- The newest confirmed pivot is paired with the previous pivot of the same type, 5 to 100 sessions apart.
- Bullish: the price low at the second pivot is below the price low at the first, and RSI is higher. Bearish: the price high is higher and RSI is lower.
- The signal date is the confirmation session, five sessions after the second pivot. Only regular divergences are listed.
Why the signal is dated after the pivot
A swing low cannot be known on the day it forms, because the next sessions could go lower. Waiting five sessions confirms the pivot, which removes repainting at the cost of a later signal.
How to read the chart
Each chart draws the line between the two price pivots and the matching line between the two RSI pivots. A divergence shows momentum changing before price; it is not a reversal on its own, so look at support, resistance and the broader trend.
What the delay means
The free cutoff is five actual exchange trading sessions behind the latest complete daily-data session. Weekends and holidays do not count. The page updates automatically from stored final scan results and never shows forming-candle matches. Charts can extend to the latest final close, but signal markers stop at the delayed cutoff.
Current scanners and trade tracking
The Financial Tech Wiz Trading Journal shows every rsi divergence signal the day it happens, the full history with a chart for each signal, and trade tracking with performance analytics. Its developing daily scans are labeled preliminary and confirm after the daily close.

FAQ
What is RSI divergence?
RSI divergence is when price and the RSI move in opposite directions at two swing points, for example price making a lower low while RSI makes a higher low.
Is bullish divergence a buy signal?
A bullish divergence shows selling momentum fading, not a confirmed reversal. Many traders wait for price to confirm with a break of resistance.
Does this RSI divergence scanner repaint?
No. Each pivot is confirmed five sessions after it forms, and a divergence is listed only after confirmation, so the free results do not change afterwards.
