How our stock scanners work

Every scanner runs on daily data for US-listed stocks and ETFs. Each scanner posts its results shortly after the market closes, and the free pages update on their own with a delayed sample of the results.

Members of the Financial Tech Wiz Trading Journal see every result the day it happens, the full history back to 2000 and a chart for every signal. TrendSpider traders can also use our Daily Pivot Breakout indicator for free: see our custom trading tools.

Which scanner should you use?

If you trade trends, start with the breakout scanner: it finds stocks clearing their last swing high with strong momentum and volume. The coming pattern scanners (VCP, cup and handle, double bottom, Darvas box) find setups before they break out, the gap, episodic pivot and power earnings gap scanners catch news-driven moves, and the relative strength, Stage 2 and RSI scanners rank trend and momentum.
